2009 PlayShop Festival
Seeking submissions now! Philadelphia Theatre Workshop offers a unique opportunity for playwrights with its 2009 PlayShop Festival. We are looking for full-length contemporary plays with small casts, minimal set/costumes, and low technical requirements. Plays should have no production history. Four plays will be chosen that best represent our mission of presenting characters, situations, and perspectives not usually seen on area stages.
For the plays selected for the festival we offer:
* 3 staged reading performances
* 5-week workshop process working with actors and a director with time in between performances to revise, rehearse, and try new material based on audience reaction
* consideration for full production in our 2009-2010 season
* no submission fee
Submission requirements:
* there are two categories - student and general
* Student - limted to college and graduate students of any age attending a local college or university or living in the Philadelphia area. To enter this category, include contact information of playwrighting instructor
* General - no geographic restrictions, however, playwrights are required to be in the Philadelphia area for the run of the festival (late February - March, 2009). Sorry, no transportation or housing stipends are provided.

* cover letter including name, postal address, email address, phone, category, and a statement of why the PlayShop Festival is important to you. Also indicate your availability to be in Philadelphia in late February - March 2009.

* 10-page dialogue sample
