PlayShop Festival

Staged readings of four world premiere plays by local playwrights make up our
2007 PlayShop Festival:

THE INVISIBLE PLAY
by Alex Dremann
directed by Bill Felty

Welcome to the Existential Publishing Company. Some people are being laid off--given a box to pack up their things and get out. Others are simply vanishing--literally. Colin can't decide which is worse. He's fighting to stay visible to win the heart of lovely Fran in the next cubicle. Tim, a handsome assistant editor, is busy sucking up as a means of survival. Nancy, the boss, is oblivious to everything. The rest of the office includes Ramona, the mysterious plant waterer; Carmen, a sassy and sexy assistant editor; Cass, who's "too old for this sh*t"; and Lawrence, the I.T. guy who no one's ever really seen. Who can avoid the "HR Box of Death?" Or worse yet, complete invisibility?

starring Nicole Blicher, Gabrielle Corsaro, Ann Gundersheimer, Conrad Ricamora, Mark Sherlock, Megan Slater, Luigi Sottile, and Miriam White
Saturday 6/9 @ 8:30pm; Sunday 6/10 @ 4:00pm; Sunday 6/17 @ 4:00pm

David, a gay Jewish college student, is failing a course on Yiddish language, much to the chagrin of his Yiddish-speaking grandmother, Sylvia. Seeking help from Michael, his Orthodox Yiddish tutor; Alan, his Chinese-American best friend; and Marcia, the wacky operator at a Yiddish telephone help line, David finds his own life turning into a piece from the Yiddish theater as he struggles to find a way to bridge his gay and Jewish identities.

starring Nicole Blicher, Adam Deremer, Mindi Ginsberg, Brian Kurtas, and Conrad Ricamora

SWAN
by Debra Leigh Scott
directed by Robin Eisenberg

Named for the CIA-run secret radio broadcasts used during the Bay of Pigs Invasion, "Swan" brings us to April 15, 1961 Miami, and into the lives of an exiled Cuban family. Concealed love affairs, covert para-millitary operations, mournful ghosts, art and madness, and Santerian ceremonies unfold in this epic tale of magic, love, misguided commitment, and honor.

starring Angela Grimley, Jennifer Nehila, Conrad Ricamora, Luigi Sottile, Mark Sherlock, Wendy Staton, and Stosh Zona
Sunday 6/10 @ 6:30pm; Friday 6/15 @ 6:00pm; Saturday 6/16 @ 8:30pm

TEMPTING
by Kathy Anderson
directed by Bill Felty

Life in a small South Jersey town can drive you a bit batty. Andy, a female art student, has a love affair with her art teacher Diana, and wrestles with regrets about breaking up Diana's long-term lesbian relationship. Andy's mother, Immaculata, is constantly rehearsing scripture readings for Mass in which the church won't let her participate. Joe, Andy's father, spends his time helping out the town's widows with household chores ("among other things", Immaculata speculates). An erotic art project forces a conflict between church and family and ignites a firestorm the likes of which they've never seen.

starring Gabrielle Corsaro, Leigh Mallonee, Scott Robertson, Nancy Segal, Megan Slater, Luigi Sottile, and Miriam White
Friday 6/8 @ 8:30pm; Saturday 6/9 @ 6:00pm; Friday 6/15 @ 8:30pm
